Strength Level: Superhuman Class 100 strength, enabling him to lift (press) in excess of 100 tons. His strength increases in direct proportion to his anger. The gray Hulk starts out closer to Superhuman Class 75, enabling him to lift (press) 75 tons, but his strength level increases with rage and can enter Superhuman Class 100. Bruce Banner possesses the normal human strength of a man of his age, height, and slight build who engages in no regular exercise.
Superhuman Powers: The Hulk possesses the capacity for superhuman strength ranging beyond the limits of virtually any other known humanoid being. The gamma radiation that mutated the Hulk's body fortified his cellular structure and added, from some as yet unknown (presumably extradimensional, such as the Dimension of Kosmos, accessed via Pym Particles) source, several hundred pounds of bone, muscle, and other tissue to his body. The mutation is not a stable one. The Hulk will periodically revert to the human form of Bruce Banner, losing the extra mass and energy to the same source from which he derived it.
The Hulk differs from many of the other human beings known to have been exposed to gamma radiation in that Banner was outside, exposed to sunlight, when he was first heavily exposed to the gamma radiation. It is at least partially for this reason that the Hulk's colour was initially gray, not green like other beings mutated by gamma radiation. Moreover, this is also part of the reason that Banner had transformed into the gray Hulk at nightfall and reverted to human form at the coming of dawn. However, it was later revealed that this was also partially due to Banner's shame over being the Hulk, and that he subconsciously forced himself to revert to human form in daylight to avoid being seen in his monstrous Hulk form. Though he has since managed to become the gray Hulk in daylight, he sometimes feels a burning sensation from sunlight contacting his skin.
The process by which Banner usually transforms into the Hulk has a chemical catalyst, adrenalin (a.k.a. epinephrine). As in normal human beings, Banner's adrenal medulla secretes large amounts of adrenalin in times of fear, rage or stress, which hormonally stimulates the heart rate, raises blood sugar levels, and inhibits sensations of fatigue. Whereas the secretion heightens normal physical capabilities in normal human beings, in Banner's case it triggers the complex chemical-extra physical process that transforms him into the Hulk.
